This post is part of a project I’m creating for Landfall Games. The rest of my project can be found here.
Over the last three months, I have been working through the Praxis program with the end goal of gaining experience applicable to a real career. In this third month, participants are asked to formulate, plan, and execute a project that will make them stand out to hiring managers.
A big part of this project is documentation. A look inside my mind while I work. This will be the first in a series of blog posts throughout the month documenting my process.
Project Idea
The first step in this project was coming up with an idea. In the beginning, I was torn between doing a project to highlight my customer success abilities and a project targeting my interest in marketing.
My first idea came to me a month prior to starting the project. I was going to use the framework of a podcast I’d created to produce four episodes about underground entrepreneurs. While this was a good idea, I realized I couldn’t highlight my own abilities very well by doing it. Back to the drawing board.
My next few ideas were centered around copywriting and marketing. I considered creating a series of Instagram ads and captions for a company, but this felt too simple for a month-long project. In the same vein, I thought I could write newsletters or blog posts for companies to build a portfolio, but this also seemed too easy.
In the end, I decided to combine all three ideas and create a marketing package for a target company. This would include two blog posts, six social media posts, and a newsletter.
Choosing a Company
With my idea set, I decided to focus on choosing a company for which to create content. After researching and brainstorming, I came up dry on ideas. I took a break and scrolled Twitter for a bit, looking for inspiration. It found me.
A community manager for Bungie was tweeting about an upcoming event. He said more information would be available in a coming blog post. I decided I could do something similar for another game development company and landed on Landfall games.
Landfall has an active community and is currently developing a brand new game, making them the prime target for my project.
With the project chosen and the company picked, all that’s left to do is start creating content. More project updates will be posted here each week. Stay tuned!
