I’m Creating a Media Package for Landfall Games – Week 2

This post is part of a project I’m creating for Landfall Games. The rest of my project can be found here.

Week two of my project to create a media package has come and gone. This week, I focused on writing blog posts, newsletters, and social media posts.

Blog Post Writing

This week, I started with writing the first blog post for my project. In an effort to match Landfall’s tone, I started with reading and watching content created by Landfall’s social manager.

Once I had their tone down, I began the actual writing for my post. In an effort to give myself more time to write, I’d picked the topic a week in advance. I wrote about Landfall’s new game, Haste. I wanted to make the blog post as accurate as possible to how development was going, so I spent a while taking notes and talking points from Landfall’s Twitter and TikTok.

Even using their social media, it was challenging to find enough content to fill a blog post. This was a valuable experience though, as I learned about stretching content, as well as creating images to supplement that content. You can read the blog post here.

Newsletter Writing

In much the same vein as the blog post, it quickly became apparent that I didn’t have enough content to fill a newsletter. Rather than reusing content from the blog post or simply throwing in the towel, I decided to create content to fill the newsletter myself.

After digging around Landfall’s Twitter, I noticed one of their other games, TABS, was approaching the one-year anniversary of its full release. I decided I could use that to my advantage and create an event to celebrate. In a few minutes, I came up with a modding and art contest that would take place this month. The winners would be announced when TABS was first released, around April 1st.

You can read the newsletter here.

Social Media Post Creation

For this part of my project, I wrote three Twitter posts designed to get the user to read the blog post and sign up for Haste’s alpha test. In writing the copy for these posts, I realized my style of writing would need to be adjusted for social media. Character limits were driving me crazy. But by the third post, I’d gotten into a flow of writing concise statements while still maintaining Landfall’s voice.

After writing the copy, I thought it would be beneficial to actually tweet the Tweets. Originally, I was going to create a new Twitter account and post them from there. After debating on it, I realized that it could get me in some trouble for impersonating a business.

Instead, I went to Google and found a fake tweet creator. I fully customized the tweets, making them appear as though they were on the Landfall page. This was the best option I could find, as I could avoid all trouble by leaving the like, retweet, and comment numbers at 0 and specifying that I’d created the tweets for demonstration purposes.

Going into week 3, I’m going to use all the tricks I picked up from this week to improve my process. If you’d like to stay up-to-date as I develop this project, more updates will be posted here
